Direct Shear Samples for small-scale direct shear testing usually come from drill core. The object of the test is to obtain peak and residual shear strengths along bedding or joint surfaces. The sample should have a minimum of 5 cm of core for each of the two pieces to be tested. The sample should be kept as close to original condition as possible, with minimal disturbance or loss of moisture. Sample preparation is as follows: |
